Not being the best computer language this book was an excellent help. the author made this complicated subject an easy one for me to understand. Screenshots were even included. The instructions were clear and precise. This makes it a great recommendation for beginner programmers. This gives information about the overview of C#, it's programming feature and the environment. I am getting interest in IT and I have been learning programming languages lately. Last week I was learning C++ and finally came across this book for my lessons in C#. The book is well designed for beginner and it gives a clear understanding of C#. I am enjoying every bit of the book and C# language. "On 21 March 1960, Robert Mangaliso Sobukwe led a mass defiance of South Africa's pass laws. He urged blacks to go to the nearest police station and demand arrest. At the end of his sentence the government, fearful of his power, rushed the so-called 'Sobukwe Clause' through Parliament, to keep him in prison without a trial. For the next six years, Sobukwe was kept in solitary confinement on Robben Island, the infamous apartheid prison near Cape Town. On his release, Sobukwe was banished to the town of Kimberley with very severe restrictions on his freedom. He died there nine years later in February 1978. This book is the story of this South African hero - the lonely prisoner on Robben Island. It is also the story of the friendship between Robert Sobukwe and Benjamin Pogrund whose joint experiences and debates chart the course of a tyrannous regime and the growth of black resistance. "

I really loved the book a specially the beginning chapters. I felt the middle chapters were a bit slow because the focused more on the author's relationship with Sobukwe and less on the liberation movement or his beliefs. Still it seems that it is Sobukwe's own supporters that misunderstood him more than the Nats. Sobukwe's theory was also more that of the ANC than that of his followers in the PAC. One cannot help but wonder what life would have held for him if he remained in the ANC.

very disappointing

coming from a cooking academy you would expect a lot better. to begin with, the book is very tiny and most of the recipes are not even Italian. this was not described. this is a total waste of money and I would be embarrassed to even print a book like this. I will not purchase another book unless there are customer reviews.

Susan L. Feagin is Associate Professor of Philosophy at the University of Missouri-Kansas City, specializing in aesthetics. She has been on the board of trustees for the American Society for Aesthetics, and was president of the Central States Philosophical Association in 1996. She is a contributor to the Journal of Aesthetics and Art Criticism, The British Journal of Aesthetics, Philosophy and Literature, Philosophical Studies, and The American Philosophical Quarterly.

Patrick Maynard is Associate Professor of Philosophy at the University of Western Ontario, where he teaches aesthetics and the history of philosophy at all levels. He is guest editor for the Journal of Aesthetics and Art Criticism. He is a contributor to the TLS, LRB, and Current Anthropology.

Great book on Aesthetics

This is more than just the result of the growth in academic specialization. No one comes out of a Ph.D. program in philosophy without some grounding in metaphysics and epistemology, logic and philosophy of science, the history of philosophy and ethics. Metaphysics and epistemology, like logic, are defined as `core areas' of philosophy. History and ethics, while not core areas, belong nonetheless to the `essential perimeter' of the field. It is difficult - indeed, in most programs, impossible - to get a Ph.D. without doing work in these areas. They are areas in which everyone is expected to have opinions and be able to discuss at least the standard problems.
Because the same is not true of aesthetics, the vast majority of philosophers enter the profession with little or no knowledge of the methods or questions of the field. As a result, philosophers generally either ignore issues of art and aesthetics or think of them as having little or no bearing on the central concerns of the discipline. Most systematic philosophers pass entire careers without ever turning their attention to questions of art or beauty. Davidson and Goodman are rare exceptions. Nor is this lack of interest in aesthetics - or the related absence of aesthetics from the pages of the most widely read and prestigious philosophy journals - likely to raise any eyebrows. And so, when philosophy departments sit down to determine the fields in which they wish to hire, it should come as no surprise that it doesn't occur to anyone to think of aesthetics. Marginalization begets marginalization.
So much for the de facto standing of aesthetics. What are we to make of this situation? This leads to the third question mentioned above: what is the proper standing, the true value or significance, of aesthetics?
Perhaps the most common answer to this question is that aesthetics, properly understood, just is philosophically marginal. The view that the de facto standing of aesthetics is indeed its proper standing is held not only by philistines who don't care about art - "this is all aesthetics deserves" - but also by those, like Stanley Cavell and Ted Cohen, who care about art a great deal - as Cohen puts it, "it is here, despite the precariousness of its position, that aesthetics is at its best."

Where are the artists?

This was the textbook for Philosophy of Art, and I must admit I got quite a bit out of it. Maynard and Feagin introduced me to the ideas of Hegel, Kant, Dewey, and other prominent philosophers. The essays inspired me to think more deeply about referentialism in art, organic unity, expression, and aesthetics. These are really all things which an artist ought to consider, and this book is a good introduction.
"But," I asked myself a number of times, "where are the artists?" Only a handful of the articles were written by artists, and they were either short, or written by fiction and poetry authors. It seems to me that those who actually create art would be in a better position than a philosopher to address certain aspects of aesthetic theory. There are quite a few artists (as far as I can find) who have discussed their artistic philosophies in books, interviews, articles, etc. A book professing to address theories of art and aesthetics would do well to call on a few artists. Of course, this is probably argumentum ad hominem.

It's good but Damnnn.....56 buck-a-roos what the f---? Guess its cause its a uni book. I had to buy it for the class of the same title. Be prepared to read a sentence like 6 times before you start to get it. Makes for lengthy reading. My prof did clarify things in class that I couldn't understand on my own. Lots of writers and philosophers. Spending a few months alone on a deserted island...this will keep you busy.

The simplifications of band-structure calculations which are now referred to as linear methods were introduced by Ole K. Andersen almost ten years ago. Since then these ideas have been taken up by several workers in the field and translated into computer programmes that generate the band structure of almost any material. As a result, running times on computers have been cut by orders of magnitude. One of the strong motivations behind the original proposal was a desire to give the conventional methods' a physically meaningful content which could be understood even by the non-specialist. Unfortunately, this aspect of lin ear methods seems to have been less well appreciated, and most workers are content to use the latter as efficient computational schemes. The present book is intended to give a reasonably complete description of one particular linear method, the Linear Muffin-Tin Orbital (LMTO) method, without losing sight of the physical content of the technique. It is also meant as a guide to the non-specialist who wants to perform band-structure calculations of his own, for example, to interpret experimental results. For this purpose the book contains a set of computer programmes which allow the user to perform full-scale self-consistent band-structure calculations by means of the LMTO method. In addition, it contains a listing of self-con sistent potential parameters which, for instance, may be used to generate the energy bands of metallic elements.

very interesting and helpful book wich descibes one of the most useful methods, the Linear Muffin Tin method, for calculating the physical propeties of solids(metals , semiconductors): bulks and slabs. The use the LMTO method allows the investigation of surfaces and interfaces states.

About the Author
ROGER F. HARRINGTON is a Fellow of the IEEE. Prior to his retirement from active teaching, he was a Distinguished Professor at Syracuse University. Among his many awards and honors, he was awarded the IEEE Centennial Medal in 1984, the IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society Distinguished Achievement Award is 1989, the URSI Van der Pol Medal in 1996, the Jubilee Tesla Medal in 1998, the IEEE Electromagnetics Field Award in 2000, and an IEEE Third Millennium Medal in 2000. He was born in Buffalo, New York, in 1925. He received his BEE and MEE from Syracuse University in 1948 and 1950, respectively, and his PhD from Ohio State University, Columbus, in 1952. Dr. Harrington is a member of Tau Beta Pi, Sigma Xi, the American Association of University Professors, and the International Union of Radio Science.

A Must Have Classic Electromagnetic Propagation Book

This book is the standard for introduction to EM wave propagation. It was written back in the 1950's, before computers and EM coded programs. It is well written and provides the mathematical and physics foundations needed to understand this phenomena. I purchased it because several of the senior EM engineers in my group at work used it to develop codes for predicting EM wave propagation. Once I read it I understood the details of how the waves propagate through space and materials. Very good read.

When I was first introduced to Electro-Magnetics (EM), I thought of Harrington's book as one of these oldies which senior professors have sitting on a dusty shelf. To the novice who I was it lacked the modern flair of the recent publications. Time went on, I took classes which tought me mathematical & numerical recipes, yet left me with little understanding of EM phenomenons. Soon enough and by my own fault I forgot the basic principles while concentrating on the math, and I lost interest. As a microwave design engineer later on I kept bumping into problems which had not yet been discussed in the litterature or for which I needed a simpler solution than the numerical approaches that are in fashion. I looked for the book which would offer the right mix of theoritical treatment and engineering relevance for the likes of me. I noticed that Harrington's was the most quoted one in the litterature just about, and thought that there must be a good reason for this. So I ordered a copy. I went through it with a pen in hand and solved the exercises at the end of each chapter. It was frustrating at first, because I had long lost the habit of manipulating the basic math of EM. I kept at it however, as the more I read the more I realised how much I ignored. I even got the taste for EM over time. Harrington's thus became a reference to which I turn almost every time I face a new EM problem. From a didactic point of view it is about the best textbook I have ever come across. Also it has more relevance to modern EM engineering than it seems at first sight: one will even find a mention of the coplanar waveguide (p.135)! I warmly recommend it to both the engineer and the student. But remember: read it with a pen in hand, and do the exercises at the end of each chapter! A couple of shortcomings I ought to mention though: the stationary formula for the input impedance of a wire dipole radiator ('7.9) is not well explained (see Jordan & Balmain's, '14.09), nor are stationary formulae for the impedance matrix of general networks ('3.8). Still: a very good buy. Harrington's "Field Computation by Moment Methods" is an other good one by the way.

One night of hot sex, days of being ignored afterward, Mia is shocked to find her mom married & Jax is her new step brother! OMG

Jax has been giving Mia the cold shoulder since they had sex and now she arrives at her mothers for Thanksgiving only to discover she has married and her new husband is Jax father. Finding out that they are now legally related explains Jax odd behavior of late and now Mia is feeling beyond awkward! As she tries to survive this weekend while avoiding any time with Jax, now he won't leave her alone. They are letting their parents think that they don't know each other and Jax seems to turn up wherever she goes. Can she continue to avoid him for the rest of the weekend, why is he trying so hard to talk to her now? After a day on the slopes snowboarding they reach a truce but one late night when he shows up in her room will she be able to resist him and what about their parents, they can't find out. The cliff hanger has you on the edge of your seat and dying to know what is next for these two inadvertent step siblings.

Omg is right

With Jax and Mia parents married there is awkwardness between them and they act like they don't know each other. With Mia trying to avoid Jax, But Jax will do anything to try to talk to Mia and explain what happened. With them being around each other and what they feel for each other how long can they stay away from each other. What happens at the end I am dying to read what happens next

OMG this is so good!!!!!! The ending has me screaming. WOW. I don't know how I would react if that happened to me. This series is getting better and better. I can't wait to read the next book. I'm counting down the days.
