Most reviews are too emotional about The Cult of the Amateur. Andrew Keen has written a fine polemic, he admits it is one sided, and he is very funny in places, and, this is important, he is actually on our side, like the writer who wrote the film 'Idiocracy'

Much has happened to confirm that the Internet is an Amateur cult. Me personally, I prefer the way things are today and Keen is too nostalgic about the good old days, but Cult of the Amateur isn't meant as a balanced treatment. It's a really funny polemic about stupid people, similar to the film, Idiocracy, and I don't see people complaining about that hilarious film!

Sometimes it's good to relax and read comedy.

An Important Angle on the Historic Jesus

Scholars tend to avoid discussion of Jesus miracles. And Jesus exorcisms are discussed even less. But this book establishes it was a common practice in ancient Judea. A review of Greco-Roman and Middle-Eastern literature on the topic establishes a historical backdrop for the accounts in the Gospels.

But Twelfetree makes a more important contribution by using higher-critical tools to validate some of the accounts in the Gospels. From there, he draws a contrast between Jesus method and those of other exorcists from his time. This leaves important clues to Jesus self-understanding and purpose in ministry. I enjoyed this book very much.

A truly break through study - a scholarly inquiry into how sunstantial the ministry of exorcism was to the advance of Jesus' mission. Is it correct to say that the gospel is not being fully proclaimed without confrontation with evil spirits? I think Dr.Twelftee has made a persuasive case for the importance of Jesus as an exorcist.

INTRODUCTION: This book is intended for all people wishing to learn the Thai system of writing and reading . Before making any attempt to study the letters and rules themselves, the student must be familiar with the phonetic system and the technical terms defined in the glossary. The main chapters are presented in the following order: - phonetic transcription; - vocalic letters; - consonant letters, syllables; - basic tone rules; - special letter-combinations; - irregular tones; - how to spell words; - how to use a dictionary... This order should simplify the search for any rule or definition whenever the pronunciation [Ung of a word troubles the reader. Although chapters must be studied in sequence, several should be skipped until the student has a fair knowledge of phonetics, simple, compound and it vocalics, the forty-four consonants divided into three groups and the basic tone rules. ers to be skipped are indicated appropriately). Finally bought it! Well worth it!!!

Learning Thai and collecting books on the Thai language are my main hobbies & after buying and using dozens of Thai language books (all helpful to some extent - and more than a few of them referencing this book), I finally found this book at a reasonable price (there was no way I was paying the $200+ some sellers on Amazon were asking). I ended up paying around $20 for this one and let me tell you, I can see why many books reference it. Most Thai language books cover very basic grammar, but leave some very important aspects of grammar out (general rules for determining tones, rules for correctly pronouncing consonant clusters, rules for correctly determining the tone of consonant clusters, etc). As an assistant teacher at the local temple, I help to teach Thai to new adult students and these types of questions would come up when students started to get to the beginner-to-intermediate level & I would have to ask the head teacher (Thai native) for answers. Well, none of the Thai natives could really explain the rules determining how they spoke, so we were always stuck at a "we don't know why, but don't worry about it" impasse. Well, this book gives you the what, how, and why behind the grammar and it turns out to be quite integral to correctly reading/speaking Thai. Highly recommended for those students who plan to go further than the mere "tourist Thai" found in your average Thai language book. Well worth $20 - $30 if you can find it for sale! Wish it wasn't out of print!
